The fourth-ranked tennis player in the world, Daniil Medvedev from Russia, will be participating in his first tournament since the Australian Open this week in Dubai. He holds the title of defending champion in this event.

Medvedev chose not to defend his title in Doha last week due to various physical issues, including problems with his foot, adductor, and shoulder. However, he now feels prepared to return to the court after spending the last seven days training in Dubai.

Around this time last year, Medvedev was on a remarkable 19-match winning streak. He achieved this feat with three consecutive title victories in Rotterdam, Doha, and Dubai, along with a runner-up finish in Indian Wells.

A quick elimination from the 2023 Australian Open and a brief stint outside the top 10 rankings served as motivation for his impressive winning streak a year ago. Medvedev acknowledges that he feels “definitely different” as he arrives in Dubai this time around.
