IIn the BJK Cup 2025 United States Taylor Townsend and Jessica Pegula won the doubles to beat Kazakhstan 2-1 on Thursday and set up a semifinal clash with Britain.
Britain, they still chasing its first Billie Jean King Cup crown and eased past Japan as Sonay Kartal and Katie Boulter secured victories in their singles matches.
The tie remained finely poised after American Emma Navarro staged a dramatic escape. She saving two match points to edge past Yulia Putintseva 7-5, 2-6, 7-6(6). However, Elena Rybakina struck back in commanding fashion overpowering world No.7 Jessica Pegula 6-4, 6-1 to even the score.

Chasing a maiden final berth, Kazakhstan took a bold gamble by pairing Elena Rybakina and Yulia Putintseva for the decisive doubles showdown.
The US pair overcame an early scare, fending off three break points at 0-40 in their opening service game but before steadying themselves and taking command of the match.
With Jessica Pegula dictating play from the baseline and Townsend sharp at the net, both Rybakina and Putintseva surrendered their serves allowing the Americans to wrap up the opening set.
Kazakhstan grabbed an early break in the second set, but the US responded swiftly breaking back and pushing the set into a tiebreak.
Jessica Pegula said,
“I haven’t played with Taylor in such a long time, so that was fun to get back playing with her. “Always i love playing with a lefty, that Makes my life a lot easier. I think our games complement each other really well. She is an amazing doubles player and she could probably play with anybody.”

Britain beats Japan
Still Britain in pursuit of its first Billie Jean King Cup title, swept past Japan as Sonay Kartal and Katie Boulter clinched victories in their singles matches.
Kartal, who advanced to the Wimbledon fourth round for the first time in this year, Britain ahead with a 6-3, 7-6(4) win over Ena Shibahara.
