Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) through a social media post on Wednesday.
Ashwin wrote,
“They say every ending will have a new start and my time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today. But my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues will be begins today.”

“I Would like to thank all the franchisees for all my wonderful memories and relationships over the years and most importantly the IPL and the BCCI for what they have given me until now. I Look forward to enjoying, making the most of what’s ahead of me.”
Ashwin, who made his IPL debut with Chennai Super Kings in 2009, went on to feature in 221 matches and he claiming 187 wickets with his off-spin at an impressive economy rate of 7.20.
Ashwin also proved to be a useful contributor with the bat in the IPL, scoring 833 runs, which included a half-century.
The 38-year-old has represented five franchises in the IPL included Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiant, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals.
Ashwin played a key role in Chennai Super Kings title triumphs in 2010 and 2011. He also featured for CSK in the 2025 season, but it proved to be a challenging campaign as he managed only seven wickets in nine matches.
Ashwin has announced his retirement from international cricket in December last year during the tour of Australia. He ending a decorated career in which he became India’s second-highest wicket-taker in Tests with 537 wickets, behind only Anil Kumble’s 619.
