Mohammed Shami, the 35-year-old fast bowler is the first bowler in the history of the IPL to take a wicket on the first ball of an innings at five times.

Mohammed Shami made an immediate impact while leading the Lucknow Super Giants bowling attack in their opening IPL 2026 match against Delhi Capitals at Ekana Stadium. Lucknow Super Giants bat first and scored 141-10 (18.4 Overs) with the help of Mitchell Marsh 35(28) and Abdul Samad 36(25).
Defending a target of 142, Shami take wicket on the very first ball of DC’s innings, giving LSG the perfect start. Delhi Capitals opener KL Rahul attempted an aggressive shot but he failed to connect properly, this to be caught by Mohsin Khan in the third-man region for a golden duck.
Match breakthrough was not just crucial for Lucknow’s momentum but it also a historic moment for Shami. The 35-year-old pacer became the first bowler in Indian Premier League(IPL) history to claim a wicket on the opening ball of an innings which is five times. This adding a milestone in his illustrious Cricket career.

Lucknow Super Giants(LSG) is Shami’s sixth team in the IPL season. He has previously played for Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Lucknow Super Giants showed strong faith in Mohammed Shami by signing him in a trade deal from SRH ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. He despite the veteran pacer managing only six wickets in nine matches for the Orange Army in the last season.
