Faf du Plessis made his Test debut in 2012 and marked the occasion with a brilliant century, becoming only the fourth South African cricketer to achieve a hundred on debut. He later went on to captain South Africa in T20Is and also led the side in Test cricket. By 2017, he was entrusted with the captaincy across all three formats solidifying his role as a key leader in the national team.
Earlier in his career du Plessis signed a contract with Lancashire in 2008 and represented the county until 2010, before changes in regulations prevented him from continuing. In the IPL he joined the Chennai Super Kings in 2011 and in the following season, he made a strong impact by scoring 398 runs.
