MS Dhoni was born in the year 1981 in Ranchi, Jharkhand and his father Pan Singh worked in MECON while his mother Devaki Devi was a homemaker. During his early school days at DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Dhoni initially played football as a goalkeeper. At this time his coach suggested to try wicketkeeping in cricket and that decision changed his whole life. MS Dhoni admired cricketers like Adam Gilchrist and Sachin Tendulkar during his childhood stage.

Before he playing for India National team MSD represented Bihar in domestic cricket. Mahendra Singh Dhoni worked as a Ticket Collector (TC) at Kharagpur Railway Station from 2001 to 2003 while playing for the Railways team.
