Venus Williams is poised for a historic comeback at the US Open later this month, after being awarded a wildcard entry to the prestigious New York tournament.
The 45-years-old Venus Williams will be the oldest player to feature in the singles event at the tournament since Renee Richards (united States) was 47 in 1981.

The American legend will return to Flushing Meadows after a two-year absence, following her first-round defeat to Belgium’s Greet Minnen in 2023.

It will mark the 577th-ranked Venus Williams first appearance at the American Grand Slam in two years.
Two-time US Open champion recently rejoined the WTA Tour after a 16-month break, opening her comeback with a first-round victory at the DC Open. That win made her the oldest player in 21 years to secure a match victory at Tour level.
Williams is among eight players granted wildcard entries for the 2025 US Open. The Other players Americans Clervie Ngounoue, Julieta Pareja, Caty McNally, Valerie Glozman, Alyssa Ahn, France’s Caroline Garcia and Australia’s Talia Gibson.
The U.S.Tennis Association had also awarded Venus Williams a wildcard for next week’s mixed doubles competition.Singles play in New York begins on August 24, while she will team up with 27-year-old American and former top-20 player Reilly Opelka for the mixed doubles tournament on August 19–20.
In Over-all illustrious career, Williams has captured two US Open singles titles and five Wimbledon titles. At the Olympic Games, she earned singles gold at Sydney 2000 and doubles gold alongside her sister Serena at the same event. She went on to add more doubles gold medals at Beijing 2008 and London 2012 and claimed a mixed doubles silver medal with Rajeev Ram at Rio 2016.
