Novak Djokovic regained control against American Taylor Fritz with a 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win on Tuesday to book a US Open semifinal clash with Carlos Alcaraz.
He marked the occasion by performing a celebrative dance in honour of his daughter’s birthday.
The 38-year-old Novak stepped onto Arthur Ashe Stadium with a perfect 10-0 record against Fritz, but it was forced to dig deep to overcome last year’s runner-up and keep his bid for a record of 25th Grand Slam title alive.
Djokovic said,
“It was an incredibly close match and It was really anybody’s match. I thought I was lucky to really save crucial breakpoints in the second set.”

“Most of the second and third sets, Fritz was the better player and these kinds of matches few points will decide the winner. In this time it was fortunately coming on my side, particularly at the end of the fourth set.”
After a better start, Djokovic faced heavy pressure in the ninth game, fending off five break points to serve out the opening set. He then produced a breathtaking crosscourt winner from deep to secure another crucial hold in the second set of the match.
Fourth seed Taylor Fritz, Who the last American man standing in the draw and finally converted his 11th break-point chance but was unable to capitalize quickly slipping two sets behind.
Djokovic held to love for a 5-4 lead in the fourth set and missed two match points in the next game. But ultimately he sealed victory with help from a Fritz double fault extending his flawless US Open record against American opponents to 16-0.
Djokovic capped the victory with a celebratory dance dedicated to his lovable daughter Tara.

He added,
“In this last game was nerve-wracking, honestly and a tough one for Taylor to finish up with a double fault. He didn’t deserve that, but great fight and great tournament for him.”
“I didn’t feel like I was dominating from the back of the court and many of my service games it was just trying to stay alive and fight for every ball. I am really proud of the fight I put in here.”
“She told me how to dance and It is K-Pop Demon Hunters. Soda Pop is the name of the song and Obviously, it is a big thing globally for teenagers and kids. But I didn’t know well about it before. My daughter told me to this few months ago about it. So we are at home doing choreography and this is one of them. I Hopefully this make her smile when she wakes up tomorrow morning.”
