Last IPL season runners-up, Punjab Kings came into the mini-auction with the second-smallest purse among the ten franchises. They had just ₹11.50 crore available at the start and the team remained relatively inactive during the early stages of the bidding. PBKS made their first move in the accelerated round, securing Australian left-handed batting all-rounder Cooper Connolly for ₹3 crore. Connolly also contributes with the ball as a slow left-arm orthodox bowler.
Kolkata Knight Riders initially showed interest in Connolly by bidding at his base price of ₹2 crore, but Punjab Kings stepped up the bidding and ultimately secured the all-rounder’s services.
PBKS Led by Shreyas Iyer and reached the final of IPL 2025 campaign, where they narrowly lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six runs. Despite the heartbreak, the season proved to be a remarkable one for PBKS as they qualified for the playoffs and made it to the final for the first time in 11 years.
Punjab Kings made minimal changes to their squad ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, retaining the core of their roster. Their most notable release was Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who struggled for form in the 2025 season and suffered a mid-season injury. Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis was also released.
