Qatar Open Defending champion Iga Swiatek faced a tough 6-3, 6-1 defeat against Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko in the semifinals on Friday, marking her fifth consecutive loss to the Latvian.

The five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek aimed to become the first player since 2011, and only the second this century—to win the same WTA tournament four years.
The 23-year-old Iga Swiatek entered the Qatar Open 2025 semifinals with a 15-match winning streak in Doha, having claimed the title in each of the past three editions.

The World 37th player Jelena Ostapenko is the 2017 Roland Garros champion and she became the first player to defeat Swiatek on five occasions.
Ostapenko has reached her third WTA 1000 final and is seeking her first title at this level, after falling short in Doha 2016 and Miami 2018. Ostapenko, Who will face America’s Amanda Anisimova in Saturday’s Qatar Open championship match.
Ostapenko said,
“I really feel like this court and it has a special energy and it was always helping me. Everything which i started for me on this court”.
