Rafael Nadal Withdraws from Qatar Open with Focus on French Open and Olympics

Rafael Nadal won’t be playing in the upcoming Qatar Open as he is still recovering from a muscle tear in Brisbane last month, delaying his return to competitive tennis.

Nadal was anticipated to mark his comeback at the ATP 250 tournament in Doha starting on Feb. 19, as his name was listed in the entry.

Nadal said on social media platform X,

“I would have loved to play in Qatar Open, where the tournament team, as well as the amazing Qatar fans have always supported me more. Unfortunately I am not able to compete here.

The Spainian hoping to be fit for the exhibition against fellow Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in Las Vegas on March 3 before he comeback his ATP comeback at Indian Wells a few days later.

The 37-year-old Nadal returned back to action in Brisbane after spending almost a year out on the sidelines with a hip injury, he sustained at last year Australian Open.

The former world number one Rafael Nadal hopes to compete at in this year’s French Open and the Olympics. The Spaniard has won 22 Grand Slam singles titles, including a record 14 French Open also.

Nadal said an interview,

“I don’t want to know which events I have left to play but between you and me, it is not going to be many. Roland Garros will be one of my best goals. I had like to play at the Olympics as well. It is not something I can confirm right now, but I hope I will be back.
