Australian Open 2026: Sixth seeded Jessica Pegula defeated ninth-seeded Madison Keys 6-3, 6-4 at Rod Laver Arena to reach her fourth quarterfinal at the Australian Open 2026.
Defending champion Madison Keys‘s Australian Open 2026 campaign end as Jessica Pegula claimed a straight-sets win in Melbourne on Monday.
Pegula took control early and jumping to a 4-1 lead in the first set. Breaking at the start of the second to again move 4-1 ahead as Keys struggled on serve, with the match ending on a forehand error from Keys.
Australian Open Singles Past Winners List:
Jessica Pegula impressed with her serving accuracy and composure, consistently keeping the ball in play and limiting unforced errors. Pegula and Madison Keys had played three times previously and Keys had won the last two matches.
Pegula reached the 2024 U.S.Open final but she lost to Aryna Sabalenka. It will be her fourth appearance in the quarterfinals in Australia Open.
Pegula and Keys both are good friends and have been doing a podcast together. Keys said earlier it would be the “first match in the Grand Slam history between two podcast co-hosts.”
Italy’s Fifth seed Lorenzo Musetti booked a quarterfinal showdown with 10-time champion Novak Djokovic after defeating ninth-seeded American Taylor Fritz 6-2, 7-5, 6-4.
