Women’s EURO 2025 – England beat Spain 3-1 in a penalty shootout to win UEFA Women’s EURO title on Sunday, successfully defending the title it won three years ago after an enthralling encounter that ended 1-1 after extra time.
In this final was the first time since the inaugural edition in the year 1984, in which Sweden were beaten England, that the game was decided by a penalty shootout.

England’s forwarder Chloe Kelly fired the decisive spot kick as helps England beat Spain 3-1 in a penalty shootout to win EURO title.
Spain controlled the possession and broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when Ona Batlle delivered a cross that caught the England defence off guard, allowing Mariona Caldentey to head the ball past Hannah Hampton.
However, England equalized in the 57th minute as Alessia Russo nodded in a header from a well-placed cross by Chloe Kelly.
Spain keep continued to monopolise the ball in their side but could not find another goal before the end of normal time. But the story continued through extra time as it proved, but could not break through the England defence as the game finished 1-1.
Spainians made a strong start to the shootout with Cata Coll saving Beth Mead’s opening effort, but England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton turned the tide by denying both Mariona Caldentey and Aitana Bonmati, putting England firmly in control.

Coll kept Spain in the contest with another impressive one-handed save to deny Leah Williamson, but the momentum swung back to England as substitute Salma Paralluelo sent her spot-kick wide of the post.
In this situation set the stage for Kelly to repeat her 2022 heroics moment, while she scored the extra-time winner over Germany that won England the title at Wembley.
Chloe Kelly executed her trademark prancing run-up before she smashing the ball into the net, then she wheeled away in sheer ecstasy to celebrate with her team mates in front of the jubilant England supporters.
Kelly said,
“I am so proud of this team, so grateful to wear this badge, and I am so proud to be English. I was cool, I was composed and I knew I was going to hit the back of the net.”
