Indian Wells Open : Top ranked Iga Swiatek smashed past American Danielle Collins by 6-3, 6-0 and Angelique Kerber beat 10th seed Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko in second round action.

Swiatek narrowly defeated Collins in an intense battle at the Australian Open, and as they faced off again, it seemed like another thrilling showdown was in the making. The score was 4-3 in the first set, with both players showcasing their skills on serve.

Swiatek stepped up her game, breaking to love for a 5-3 lead, and went on to secure victory by winning the final nine games. This advancement puts her one step closer to the tournament title, which she claimed in 2022.

Iga Swiatek said,

“I started to make a few less mistakes, which gave Danielle a chance to make a few more.”

It is a small difference, but at the match end, I was ready to play well in those important moments. I am really happy that I kept my focus and stayed with my game, no matter what Danielle was doing on the other side of the net.

Collins said, “In January she would retire at the end of the season, so this is expected to be the 30-year-old final appearance at Indian Wells Open.”

The German Angelique Kerber scored her biggest win in three years with an impressive 5-7 6-3 6-3 victory over hard-hitting Latvian Jelena Ostapenko.
