The South Africa captain replaces David Bedingham in the team squad that he played in Pakistan recently and levelled the two-match series 1-1. This is the only change in the squad.
He last appeared in the Test squad during the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia in June. However, a calf strain he sustained in September sidelined him from the opening Test series of the new WTC cycle.
The batting lineup has been strengthened with the return of Temba Bavuma and now features Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi, Dewald Brevis, Zubayr Hamza and Ryan Rickelton. Kyle Verreynne serving as the designated wicketkeeper. The pace attack managed by Kagiso Rabada supported by Corbin Bosch, Wiaan Mulder and Marco Jansen as the other fast-bowling options.
