Coco Gauff beats 66th-ranked Eva Lys by 6-3, 6-4 victory in Beijing on Thursday and reach the 2025 China Open semifinals for a second successive year.
Gauff, aiming to become the first woman to claim consecutive titles at the WTA 1000 eventl She had already endured back-to-back three-set matches in earlier rounds and once again faced strong resistance from the German.

Coco Gauff said,
“I am happy with how I played today. She is really a tough opponent and she hit a couple of great shots on the run.”
“I think I really want to stay confident in my game and not be too passive when I have the lead. I played one passive point in this match, but otherwise I played well.”

The opening set began at a blistering pace, with both players unleashing a flurry of winners and exchanging early breaks as momentum shifted dramatically.
The world number three seemed to settle into her rhythm on serve in the second set, cruising through a couple of comfortable holds. But a brief lapse and highlighted by a few double faults injected some late drama.
After a run of five consecutive breaks of serve, defending champion Gauff finally seized the lead when Lys pushed a backhand wide, before consolidating to secure the first set.
Serving for the match at 5-4, Gauff kept her composure to seal the victory in one hour and 28 minutes.
The two-time Grand Slam champion will next face either American Amanda Anisimova or Italy’s Jasmine Paolini, who square off in Thursday’s second quarterfinal.
