Colin Munro from New Zealand Cricket retires from International cricket

Colin Munro, who played for New Zealand cricket team as a batter has retired from international cricket. He announced this decision after missing out on a spot in the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup squad.

The 37-years-old Munro is a South African born former New Zealand international cricketer, he played for New Zealand cricket team as a batter.

The Left Handed Opening batsman last international was a T20 match against India in the year 2020.

Munro said in a statement,

“Although it has been since my last appearance now and I never gave up hope that might be able to return off the back of my franchise T20 form.”

“This is the best time to announcement of the Black Caps squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 is the perfect time to close that my carrier officially.”

His T20 debut has started vs South Africa at Kingsmead, Dec 21, 2012 and Last T20 match against vs India at Bay Oval, Feb 02, 2020.

He made his century with 47-ball against West Indies in Mount Maunganui in the year 2018 was the fastest T20 century for New Zealand at that time.

Against Srilanka he made his half-century in 14-balls at Auckland’s Eden Park in 2016 is still the fastest in T20Is by a New Zealand cricketer.

New Zealand Cricket boss Scott Weenink said,

“Munro will continue to play his franchise cricket but it is legacy remains in the short format game as a pioneer of aggressive with 360-degree style batting.”

“We really thank him for his amazing contribution in more than hundred international games for Cricket.”
