With a strong 3–1 comeback victory over the Faroe Islands at home on Friday, Croatia confirmed their qualification for next year’s World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Croatia’s 19-point tally puts them out of reach for the Czech Republic, who have 13 points and just one fixture remaining against Gibraltar on Monday.

Ranked 127th by FIFA, the visitors end their campaign with a commendable 12 points and a genuine push for a top-two spot.

The Faroe Islands shocked the home crowd in the 16th minute when Geza David Turi drove forward from midfield and fired a low shot. This deflected off Luka Vuskovic to give the visitors the lead.

Seven minutes later, Croatia drew level when the ball fell kindly to Josko Gvardiol inside the box and he drilled a powerful shot into the bottom-right corner.

In the 57th minute, Croatia moved in front as Petar Musa, left unmarked, guided a low cross home. Nikola Vlasic put the result beyond doubt in the 70th minute with a confident, composed strike.
