Dubai Open: Amanda Anisimova into last 16 after Barbora Krejcikova withdraws

The American Amanda Anisimova was handed a walkover into the last 16 of the Dubai Open 2026 on Monday after her opponent Barbora Krejcikova was withdraw from the WTA 1000 event.

The 24-year-old Anisimova enter the round of 16 to face Indonesia’s Janice Tjen without swinging a racquet. The two-time Grand Slam winner Barbora Krejcikova pulled out because of issue with her left thigh.

Dubai Tennis Champions Past Winners:

The tournament so far has been marked by withdrawals with the Czech player has joined on the Canadian rising star Victoria Mboko.

They became the seventh and eighth players to withdraw from this tournament to joining a list that already includes world number one and two Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek.

Janice Tjen secured her place in the next round against Anisimova with a 7–6 (7/5), 6–4 victory over 2021 US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez in their round-of-32 clash.

British tennis player Emma Raducanu, who defeated Fernandez in that New York final and lost a first-round exit in Dubai on Monday by 6–1, 5–7, 6–2 to world number 67 Antonia Ruzic.

Meanwhile, rising star Iva Jovic advanced to the second round with a fluctuating 6–1, 1–6, 6–1 win over Uzbekistan Kamilla Rakhimova.

Sara Bejlek continued her impressive run in the Middle East, defeating Zeynep Sonmez in straight sets to set up a second-round clash with ninth seed Belinda Bencic.

Spanish Paula Badosa secured a 6–3, 7–5 victory over Katerina Siniakova to arrange a meeting with Elina Svitolina. Meanwhile, third seed Coco Gauff will begin her campaign against Anna Kalinskaya, after earned a three-set win over Jelena Ostapenko.

Defending champion Mirra Andreeva will begin her title defence against Daria Kasatkina, while the top seed Elena Rybakina is set to face Kimberly Birrell.
