Chloe Kelly nets a dramatic extra-time winner as reigning champions England rally from behind to defeat Italy 2-1.
After their stunning comeback from two goals down to defeat Sweden on penalties in last week’s quarterfinal, they delivered more heroics once again.

Michelle Agyemang came off the bench to force extra time with a 96th-minute equaliser, while fellow substitute Chloe Kelly sealed the comeback in the 119th minute, firing home the rebound after her penalty was initially saved.
England coach Sarina Wiegman made a single change from the penalty shootout victory over Sweden in the quarterfinal, bringing Esme Morgan into the defence to replace Jess Carter.
However, Italy appeared to be the sharper side early on. The Azzurre took the lead in the 33rd minute when the lively Sofia Cantore burst down the right flank and delivered a cross that found its way to the back post.

Alessia Russo and Lauren James had England’s best chances in the first half, but Italy maintained their lead going into the break. In response, Wiegman introduced Beth Mead at the start of the second half to spark a turnaround.
Lauren Hemp’s header landed on the roof of the net, while Alex Greenwood tested goalkeeper Laura Giuliani with a powerful long-range effort that was punched away. Giuliani was later shown a yellow card for time-wasting, with nearly 20 minutes left on the clock.
As time began to run out, England coach Sarina Wiegman turned to Chloe Kelly and Michelle Agyemang, two substitutes who had already made a significant impact off the bench in the comeback win over Sweden.
Sarina Wiegman, England coach expressed her emotions after the team reached another dramatic comeback to defeat Italy in extra time on Tuesday, to securing their place in the final of the Women’s Euro 2025.
Sarina Wiegman said,
“I have many emotions again and I feel relief, I feel happy. It feels a bit surreal but we are here and we are going into the final.”
“It does feel like a real movie. While it finishes like that I am enjoying it but it was a little bit dramatic.” she smiled.
She has a bold and desperate move, teenage Arsenal forward Michelle Agyemang replaced captain and centre-back Leah Williamson, highlighting the urgency within the Lionesses’ camp.
Italy had a golden chance to seal the win, but Hannah Hampton came to England’s rescue with a vital double save, denying both Michela Cambiaghi and Emma Severini in quick succession from a corner in the 86th minute.

Once again, England were forced into extra time. With momentum now on their side, they continued to press, and in the 108th minute, Laura Giuliani had to react sharply to prevent a Chloe Kelly corner from curling directly into the net.
Kelly’s initial effort was saved by Giuliani, but she reacted quickly to slot home the rebound, sending England into yet another final.
Arsenal forward Kelly said,
“That is what happens when a great team comes together and makes things happen, three consecutive finals playing under an unbelievable manager in Sarina.”
“It is incredible to be part of this special team. I am really so proud.”
“I can’t believe what has just happened. The belief in the squad, the resilience and the togetherness in this group is just so special.”
